What are Blackout Curtains?
Blackout curtains are different to the average curtain, they are either coated with a blackout coating, lined with a specialist blackout lining, or made from a technical fabric woven with black threads to dim out the light. These curtains are designed to completely block light out of any bedroom. This is great for blocking out the early morning sunshine beaming in throughout the spring and summer months.
Blocking Out More Than Light
Blackout blinds do a great job of creating a wall between light and your baby's room. They can also provide insulation to a room and block out any noises from outside if you live in a busy area.
Insulate your nursery: Blackout curtains are great for helping with heat retention. By restricting the airflow between warm and cold areas, the curtains help keep warmth in your nursery in winter but also block out the heat and UV Rays in the summer keeping it cool!

Early morning light stimulates the production of cortisol:
High levels of light stimulate the release of cortisol, which helps the body wake up and get up for the day. However, this has only been found to have this effect in the early morning and not other times of the day. Therefore, it’s essential that you invest in some good blackout blinds for your nursery room.
Newborns are comforted by darkness:
A newborn spends 9 months in total darkness, therefore it would make sense that it’s the most comforting for them. Taking your baby from direct sunlight to somewhere dark can help soothe and calm them to sleep. Ensuring your newborn's nursery is pitch black is a must!
Light suppresses the hormone melatonin:
Melatonin is released in our brains and helps regulate our sleep patterns. When it gets darker our level of melatonin rises which helps our bodies and brain switch to sleep mode. Therefore the darker the room is, the easier your baby will find it to get to sleep.
