The Interior Design Trends That Are Set to Dominate in 2022

Do you take pleasure in knowing that your home is up to date with the latest trends? Well, you’re in the right place!

It's no secret that the world of interior decor is ever-changing. Trends can be unpredictable and sometimes downright surprising! So, be prepared to see a few comebacks in this article.

Read on to discover the interior design trends that are set to dominate in 2022…

Greens and earthy tones

We all saw this one coming. It’s been a dominant trend this year, and we predict that it won’t be slowing down anytime soon.

Many people have transitioned to spending more time at home, and as a result - it’s become much more important for people to find little ways to connect with nature.

Think houseplants and the use of a natural colour palette. This can include sage greens, light greens, earthy browns and deep navy tones. Colours such as these bring us a certain sense of peace, and incorporating these colours into the home has become very popular here in the UK.

What we’re trying to say here is that, when we feature these natural tones in our home, we feel more at one with nature. And that makes us (generally speaking) more relaxed!

It’s been a tough couple of years, so we think that this trend will dominate in 2022 - because who doesn’t want to feel a little more relaxed in the confines of their home?

The return of vintage-inspired pieces

Yep, you guessed it! We predict that vintage pieces, that aren’t actually vintage, will be making a huge comeback next year.

This is a home decor trend that you either love or hate. But, you don’t have to go all out! Don’t swap out your ultra-modern sound system for a vinyl record player just yet.

For example, our gorgeous Buckingham Metallic Cushions encapsulate this trend perfectly. Pair them with a matching set of Buckingham Metallic Pencil Pleat Curtains? Even better.

Ethereal feel

We’ll be going into this trend in more detail very soon, so keep your eyes peeled for more information in January. However, we thought we’d touch on it now to prepare you for the wave of ethereal-style homes that’ll dominate in 2022!

We believe that this trend is going to be huge in 2022. If you search ‘ethereal’ on Instagram, you’ll see that there are nearly a million posts associated with it - and it’s showing no signs of slowing. How exciting!

You might be wondering what the ethereal home decor trend is all about. Well, the answer is pretty simple.

Ethereal, by definition, means beauty. Light. Celestial. Almost like a slice of heaven! In fact, if you’re a fan of cottagecore, you’ll adore creating the ethereal feel in your home.

There are distinct similarities between the two, which include the appreciation of delicate furnishings, tributes to nature and embracing homely simple pleasures. The two trends also tend to be described as ultra-feminine, as they both place an emphasis on delicate touches, comfort, gentleness and beauty.

Ethereal homes are all about creating a sanctuary that’s personal to you, and there’s a magical feel to this trend - with a subtle appreciation for high-shine elements that glisten in the light, which are then accompanied by delicate and airy soft furnishings - to create that beautiful magical feel.

What’s more, the trend also encourages the use of neutral tones with a singular block colour. This ensures that the overall style stays interesting, as overdoing it on neutral tones can create a clinical feel - and no one wants that!

So, when you’re trying to create an ethereal feel in your home, we would recommend using the following:

  • Home decor that sparkles. We did mention that there was a magical feel to this trend, so think shimmery materials, such as sequins.
  • Gold. Ethereal homes almost always have gold features throughout. Gold cushions or even curtains would be an excellent choice.
  • Delicate ornaments positioned throughout the home. Trinket trays would be a perfect example of this!
  • Furniture that is made using natural materials (e.g rattan).
  • Natural touches throughout the home (e.g pampas grass).
  • This one is subjective, but try to include soft furnishings that look like they were made with love. For example, voiles that feature embroidery. A true ethereal home will always understand the importance of incorporating these little details into a room!
  • Lots of soft furnishings. Blankets, pillows, rugs, cushions - the lot!
  • Neutral tones that are soothing as the primary canvas, which are then accompanied by an eye-catching block colour. For example, the room may feature predominantly light tones, with deep navy curtains.

Crushed velvet

Yes, that’s right. We predict that the crushed velvet hype will be back next year!

So, in 2022, we predict that homes across the UK will feature focal points of crushed velvet, including curtains and cushions, that are then balanced out with neutral additions for a stylish finish.

Take our gorgeous  Vienna Velvet Cushions as a perfect example. The beautiful design creates a lovely balance with the rich velvet fabric - making these cushions an interesting yet elegant addition to any room.

Remember, less is more when it comes to a rich fabric such as crushed velvet. So, if you love this style, strategically place it where you would like the eyes to be drawn in!

So, crushed velvet fans. If you’ve been hoping for a comeback, we believe you’ll get it in 2022.
