What are eyelet curtains?

Eyelet curtains can be defined as curtains that have the ringlets built-in, so that they can be up and ready looking glorious in your home in a matter of minutes. This type of curtain is also commonly referred to as ring top curtains.

If you’re looking for hassle-free curtains that are stunning in any room, you really can’t go wrong with eyelet curtains.

Eyelet curtain characteristics

High-quality eyelet curtains (like ours) will have key characteristics that let you know they’re proper eyelet curtains. And don’t worry, you don’t have to be an expert to be able to identify them! The key characteristics of eyelet curtains include:

  • They probably appear super stylish, featuring a nice design. This can be as plain or as bold as you like.
  • The rings or eyelets are already sewn in as part of the curtain, so there’s no need to worry about buying additional rings or hooks to hang them - they’ll just slot right onto the pole.
  • Proper eyelet curtains will have deep pleats because of the way that they hang, and because of their natural column-like fabric folds. It’s what gives them that subtle look of luxury!
  • The folds mentioned above should run from top to bottom.

What types of features can eyelet curtains include?

Eyelet curtains can come with a wide range of useful features.

For example, eyelet curtains that offer total blackout are a popular choice for bedrooms. Or elsewhere in the home, you may decide to go for a thermal eyelet curtain. They’re perfect for providing insulation, keeping cosy and retaining the warmth in the winter, as well as keeping the heat out during the warmer months.

Can I use my curtain track to hang eyelet curtains?

No. Curtain tracks are for pencil pleats, pinch pleats, or wave header style curtains. Eyelet curtains are not compatible with a curtain track.

All you’ll need is a standard curtain pole of your choice, but it’s always worth double-checking to make sure that the rings incorporated into your eyelet curtain will fit around the pole comfortably. A standard-sized curtain pole should be more than perfect, however, it’s always best to make sure the diameter of the eyelet or ring is suitable.

What’s the best way to hang eyelet curtains?

Eyelet curtains are probably the easiest curtain type to hang.

Eyelet curtains will slide directly onto your curtain pole, but if you want the full effect - make sure that you start by folding the curtain inwards.

This means once they’re mounted onto the curtain pole, the finished look will include those lovely deep pleats that make this type of curtain so popular.

Top tip: make sure that the last section of your eyelet curtain sits on the outside of the wall bracket, to secure it into place more efficiently.

What’s the difference between pencil pleat curtains and eyelet curtains?

A common misconception is that pencil pleat curtains and eyelet curtains are the same type of curtain. They are not!

Apart from the distinct differences in appearance, pencil pleat curtains are known as a more traditional style.

What’s more, pencil pleats, as the name suggests, have literal pleats at the top of the curtain, which can either be tightened or loosened depending on preference. Eyelet curtains do not feature a pleated style like this at all, instead, they have a more modern look and rings sewn into the fabric so that they can be hung straight away and with ease.

So, although they are both beautiful and commonly mistaken as the same, they are very different!

Are eyelet curtains suitable for bedrooms?

Yep, eyelet curtains are great for bedrooms.

Additionally, eyelet curtains are a great choice for children’s bedrooms. They offer practical qualities that would be suitable for kids to use, such as being easy to open and close.

So, in other words, your children shouldn’t run into any problems using them by themselves!

Are eyelet curtains suitable for living rooms?

Eyelet curtains are a very common choice for living rooms, or any room in the house for that matter, for all of the reasons mentioned above. The practicality and ease of use make them an ideal choice.

What style of eyelet curtains are there?

Eyelet curtains will naturally have a contemporary appearance, and they offer the perfect canvas for any design or style. Because of this, you’ll likely come across many variations, perfect for people who love to feel spoilt for choice.

So, if you prefer your curtains to be one colour, you’ll have no issue finding this with eyelet curtains. And vice versa, if you love curtains to be bold and eye-catching, eyelet curtains will be made featuring these types of styles too. Prints. Patterns. Textured. You name it, and eyelet curtains will deliver it. The possibilities are endless!

We have a super detailed curtain measuring guide that’ll answer all your questions.

Care advice for eyelet curtains

We always recommend following the specific care advice given when you purchase curtains, as every set will be made using different fabrics. However, here are some general guidelines to follow to help keep your eyelet curtains in pristine condition:

  • Always opt for a 30-degree delicate wash.
  • Let them air dry naturally.
  • If they come out of the washing machine a little creased, cool iron them on reverse.
