How to Measure for Outside of the Recess
Measuring for Made to Measure curtains outside the recess is quick and easy. All you'll need is a metal tape measure, along with a pen and paper to note down your measurements.
For the most accurate results, we recommend fitting your curtain pole or track before you measure.
Curtains hung outside the window recess sit above and around the window, helping to create a fuller look and allowing the curtains to stack neatly when open. This is a popular choice for heavier curtains, but can also be used for sheers and voiles depending on the look you want to achieve.
Follow the guide below to measure the width of your pole or track and the finished drop you need for your curtains.
If your curtain will hang outside the window recess, measure the full width of your curtain pole or track, rather than the window itself. For the best look, your pole or track should extend around 15cm past each side of the window, giving your curtains plenty of room to stack back when open.
For the drop, measure from the very top of where your curtain will hang down to where you would like the curtain to finish. This will give you the finished drop to enter when placing your order.
Once you've measured your window, simply enter your Window Width on the product page and then choose your preferred fullness. We'll use these details to make your curtain to the correct finished size.
